Before you start
Before you proceed with adding a video to a page it is useful to check to make sure you have the following:
- Video source file
- Video transcript
- Closed captions file
- Pre-roll image
It is also important you check the following information form the design/UX/marketing team:
- What player does the video use (SLUK Brand, 1825, other)?
- Where does the video sit on the page?
- Is the video housed in a component (hero, information box, accordion)?
- How is the video transcript displayed (accordion, PDF, word document)?
How to embed a video on a page
-
Sign into to JW player and navigate to video page:
-
Click on the upload button:
-
From the pop-up box select the video file to upload from your local directory:
Select the file to upload and press open. -
Once the file has finished uploading, switch to the "Assets" tab:
On this tab you can upload the closed captions file and select the correct pre-roll image (from the video file or an image provided by marketing). -
Once the closed captions and pre-roll image have been selected click on the embed button.
On the embed pop-up window, select the correct player from the dropdown list (sluk-brand, 1825, etc...). You can test the player by clicking on the preview page link at the bottom left hand corner of the pop-up. -
Once you have selected the player, copy code from the JavaScript tab.
-
Navigate to the web page you are building - this could be a local build or a page in TeamSite 7.4.
The embed script can now be added to the component.
When adding a video to a TeamSite component, the script tag needs to be added through the Tiny MCE editor in the component. For some TeamSite components you may need to wrap the embed script in a<div>
to prevent the component removing the script.
Notes
For accessibility purposes the video transcript should not be in a PDF or word document, this will present problems for assistive technologies.
Closed captions should also be included for every video.
